The terrourists from Iran

This piece of news caught my interest recently:

House passes legislation barring travelers from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan from entering U.S. without visa

And I got a copy off BBC so I know it’s not a ‘foax’.

So if this passes the Senate into a law, I won’t be able to enter the US without a visa (as a tourist)?

And it’s not just me. Not at all. A good deal of young Europeans (German, French…) travel around the world and they inevitably pass through Iran (Persia), since it’s an ancient country with a lot of history, sights, traditions, millennia-old culture, hospitality, it’s big, and it’s right there, smack in the middle of the map, you cannot avoid even if you wanted, other than crossing the vast nothingness of Russia or sailing on the Caspian from an authoritarian country (Azerbaijan) to a country le plus ridicule (Turkmenistan)… and they will all now need visa to visit the US. What do those ***** hamberders House members think? Have they ever been to Iran? Have they ever traveled?

Just one quote to illustrate the utter ludicrousness of it all:

“This will help neutralize the threat from foreign terrorists entering our country,” House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Tuesday.

Like,… really? Neutralize? No more threat to the US because you have to get a visa if you visited Iran? If someone is really determined to get in the U.S., a cursory check at the embassy is hardly going to stop him. But this whole thing smells of bullying an incredible number of young travelers from supposedly allied Western Europe. It’s just insane, especially when I see it was passed by an overwhelming majority.

The same Mr Ryan is apparently unfazed when it comes to selling guns to those already on a terror watch list:

The vote was delayed for a short period on the House floor, as Democrats offered procedural motions designed to force a vote on Rep. Peter King’s, R-New York, measure to block gun purchases from those on the terror watch list. Ryan has argued that idea is a “distraction” and that the broader focus should be on measures aimed at fighting terrorism.

Eh? Did I read it right? He must have confused a terrorist with a tourist. Or, for him, all tourists are actually terrorists, a.k.a. terrourists.

This comes on top of the news I’ve read elsewhere that in America a person who cannot board a plane (because of being a suspected terrorist), can actually buy a gun. Legally. Really.

And in this slew of rhetorical diamonds Mr Rubio defends it (!), because the list is full of “everyday Americans” who are on the list by accident.

I think it’s the same senator Rubio who is likely to vote for the aforementioned law on visa waiver program (VWP). Now, a terror watch list might contain some innocent people by mistake. But a list of Western European travelers (or, travelers from VWP countries) to Iran contains pretty much only tourists – 100% innocent people. My head explodes from the sheer nonsense. I could only naively dream that those people just confused similarly sounding words ‘tourist’ and ‘terrorist’.
